Layla Janahi

ESG Champion, Tatweer Petroleum

Being the first female engineer in the oil and gas industry in Bahrain makes Layla’s career unique. In 1992, she began her Bachelor’s in chemical engineering. Additionally, in 2006, she graduated from the University of Bahrain with distinguished honours and a master’s degree in Environment and Sustainable Development. She worked with the Society of Petroleum Engineers to organise the first oil and gas workshop during the MEOS event in 2006 to empower women in the industry. The women empowerment workshop is now a permanent feature of most of the GCC’s oil and gas events and workshops.

As an ESG Champion at the current organisation, she is handling afforestation projects in the oil fields by reusing treated water for irrigation. Also, she has been working with many societies and associations on social and environmental activities.
